I tell ya, nobody could rip it up like Buddy.
I was watching a program on Discovery the other day about Mysteries at the Museum, and there was a museum that has a pair of Buddy Holly's glasses, probably the museum in Lubbock. Anyway, it was talking about the crash that killed him, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. It showed a couple of pics of the wreckage, and still I got a lump in my throat from an event nearly 60 years ago. Let me repeat - SIXTY years ago. Can't believe it's been that long we've been without Buddy and yet is music is still so fresh. A true visionary and talent he was. What would have given the world if his life was not cut so short?
While with my last roommate who gave me children, I made many Christmastime drives to Minnenipples, each time, forced to drive through Iceowa.....the Bermuda Triangle of the midwest. I think they must have black ice and freezing fog in frickin August. I say that, to say this: I have never passed through Clear Lake Iowa, without getting a tear in my eye and/or a lump in my throat. I could go on, but there is no need. Many others get it, and many who do not, wonder what's the matter with we who do..........kind like with music.......
