At the risk of stepping on a few old toes here, I am going to go out on a limb, and say that I finally am starting to see some value in Twitter, and in some of what I once considered to be aggravating social networking websites. Doesn't mean I'll be tweeting tomorrow, or opening a MyFace account, but in the wake of the tragedy in Haiti, I do now see some value in these "instant" communication media, Johnny come lately sites. I have known Ham operators, many of them over the years, and while I admire their technical expertise and dedication, I think that likely now, with the UPS systems in place on cellular communications, and the networks that are in place, that the old tubes and dials are regrettably going the way of the old spout we used to pierce the top of an oil can with, and the oil filter removal tool( for those of us that weren't so cheap that we just drove a screwdriver through the damn thing and twisted it loose the messy way). I reckon it's just progress, and while I am one who usually bitches about software upgrades, invariably, they usually turn out to be better that the last version, and now as I always have, I will likely get with the program sooner or later. That doesn't mean my crotchety old butt won't whine about it for a while first and find some kid to sit them down and tell them about the "good ol' days though...........

Ah, but I was just reading this: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20100111/schwabsky about the possible rebirth of polaroid photography, once thought killed by the advent of the digital camera. Maybe we can have both.
I was at a wedding where all the casual photography was done with the modern polaroid. Just wish I didn't have to remember yet another password for the twitter account. r;)
Please say it isn't so!
Why does everything have to be so complicated AND require a password?
Interesting article on the possible revival of Polaroid film paper. I was half expecting a new digital camera/printer rolled into one. We are really close to that now already, with the removable camera storage media being accepted in many printers.....
I wish someone would get as passionate about the old 110 and 126 film cartridges and even the old Brownie film. I have a load of 60s era negatives, with the prints long lost, that I'd love prints from. Most camera stores just laugh when I called to inquire. A couple told me to call old so and so.....said he had a process to photograph the negatives and get a less than standard print, but that it would cost roughly the price of a specially outfitted DeLorean to go back in time to retake the shots.
Wonder what Dick Korczynski would charge you?
I think he could possibly help you with this.
What about Walgreens?
In Victoria there is Kracyzski (Sp?) and they claim to work with old film. I have used them for other work and they are great people. I can get the number if you need it. Let me know.
As far as Twitter goes, I don't think my old brain can understand one more "new and latest" technology. Heck, I remember being in college and laughing at all the geeks walking around with boxes of punch cards to program the computers and now here I am with my lap top sending this message out instantly. On days when I don't feel old, all it takes is for me to remember how far technology has come in my lifetime and then I am speed dialing the old folks home.
Passwords are needing to get with the program and just let me scan my retina or press my finger on the screen to know it's okay to let me into my programs. Too many "catchy" phrases to remember and if I write them down, I can't remember where I put the list.
Now, who am I and what is my password on this site? Something about weasels and consequences, or some such nonsense.
Edith Ann has the correct spelling in her post of the photographer.
Well, Edith Ann and Ferret, you beat me to it. Seriously, Pilot, next time you are around this way, go to Korczynski's in Victoria. They are great, and can be trusted with your negatives. They also do photo restoration services. I have never had anything but good experiences with them.
It is good to see your crotchety old butt posting again, my friend.
That's good, it's so odd but twitter is the one thing on the internet that I liked right away. I think it's the privacy it seems to provide. Probably just me though.
